Mammut’s Secret LED ice climbing event

Mammut held a secret climbing event in Wonju, Korea last week. It looks to be an intersection of art and sport, not so far off from the Afterglow project. A 100 meter ice wall was illuminated with 16 LED Par day-glow colored lights. As climbers ascended the disco display, Mammut shot the spectacle on UHD cameras. This event, and potential future events, are being called the “Absolute Alpine Project.”

“Other series haven’t been decided yet, but it will be related to climbing and outdoor activities,” said Mammut Korea CEO Andy Suh to the Korea Times. “The purpose of the events is to bring out the beauty of nature through artificial production and highlight the value of mountaineers.

“We hope that many people will start taking interest in mountain-related outdoor activities through events like this.”

Mammut Korea posted a few images on their Facebook page of the ice wall:

Due to it’s remote location, the public was not invited to this installation. Though, the fruits of this project will be released on Facebook on February 6th.

A similar event was held in Norway over a year ago. This looks to be a similar concept. Video below:
